  • A Soulmark for A Soulmate -Descendants Fanfiction

    Part 1

    Villains don’t have soulmate.

That’s at least what Auradon states when Crown Prince Benjamin Florian wanted to bring the Isle kids to give them some education and somewhat a normal life. But the Council didn’t let it pass. Because villainy ran through the blood and Villains Kids could only be as soulless as their parents. Hence with no soulmate.

No one said anything about the prince's late appearence of his soulmark, neither did they whispered between them about what it could mean.

The thing is, Auradon can’t live with Evilness.

But were the said children really as mean as people think they are?

If you look into some Villain's lair, you would have the answer.

For example, Cruella De Vil's household. She's one of the worst villain the world had given. More than one could say that skinning innocent dogs just to have some outfits is incredibly insane but if she was also crazy among her human peers. And his son, Carlos Oscar, would know that.

She made him dust and swipe her mansion Hell Hall, wash her red car till it's shiny and told him to learn to drive so she can have her own driver. She also manipulated him by instilling fear of dogs. And although being enslaved by his own mother, Carlos didn't turn into a villain himself, instead, he's really altruistic and think for others when he's not overwhelmed himself. Like, he would befriend Evil Queen's daughter because of her loneliness.

And if you look into Evil Queen's household, who is living in a tower to be isolated from others villains, you'd see just what once have been royalty if the settings weren't eerily dark and confined. The woman's depicted terrible for wanting to kill a teenage girl just because she's fairer than her.

And seeing how she treated her actual daughter in spite of the step one, she's in fact horrible. She trapped her only daughter into their tower and told her that a princess at her statue can only end with a prince or royalty even if the Isle of the Lost don't have any. She mentally manipulated her that only the fairest of them can end greatly so kept her from gaining weigh, and most likely almost kill her of starvation. However, Evie didn't became a cold person by thinking highly of herself, she kept secretly the wish to befriend other villain kids and that they could like her as her own person.

On the other side, there is Jafar. The man who wanted to be sultan and liked gold more than anything else. One can only guess how the child would become.

And Jay proved it by being the best thief of the Isle and manhandling others because of his stature. He's also mistreated but Jafar's is more a con man than a physical one. He could make people believe what he wants because he can and have the resources, being a former vizier of the sultan. So, besides his skills, Jay is also a charmer that just add more efficiency to his thievery. The worst that one can expect from him is to contract an alliance with other ruthless kid like him.

And the Isle only bore the worst. Because, Maleficent, the Fae that could transform into dragon, got a child too.

But of course, Maleficent only cares about power and had sex with the most powerful villain of the other sex : Hades, the god of underworld. So, it could only mean this offspring of her is as powerful as her, right? But, Maleficent second of her name is born on the Isle of Lost, where couldn't manifest any hint of magic. So, the girl is your average kid, disappointing her mother. You can guess what she became. Yep, she actes as the worse villain kid the Isle could have just to earn her mommy's attention.

    Well, no such luck.

Not very the best thing to act for her redemption and other Villains kids' image. But it wasn't like Auradon put them on camera. They were as much considered than cockroach. And Auradon is all about well maintained castles, so you know what happened to those nuisances. Basically, the Isle of the Lost is the trash of the United States of Auradon who threw out all the damages things and left over. There are no magic, neither Wi-Fi and the condition here is so bad that no one dare think about relationship.

If the one with your blood isn't good, how could it be better with strangers?

Maybe not better, but perhaps less bad, you know?

Because, Carlos did feel in peace with Evie and is forever grateful of her for giving him her blue blanket and pillow when he was 7 and her 8. And Beelzebub. That was the first time in his five years of existence he ever felt affection and be cared. So when Evie asked him to bring some books that he talked so much about, he complied without complaining. Not out loud, at least. And didn't say anything about his injuries if there were. They were just reading all those worn-out science books about maths, chemistry and the like and tried to make life at the Isle better. Like making the water potable, the foods less molded, etc...

Their relationship lasted nine years. Because, at 14, Carlos was tinkering the TV post he got in his tree house and it exploded. Like, litterally, under his very own eyes.

And it broke a hole to the barrier.

The first thing he did was writing on his arm as a side note.

Not touching the red cable anymore.

He probably should have add 'at least not twisting/cutting it without a boom' but it was just a remind for the next time he's going to revise an Auradon garbage. Well, he could at least congratulate himself now that the TV could have more than two channels.

What will he fix for next?

Except there is not next time, like at all.

After Auradon discover a hole in the barrier, they panicked and pull up some more system to protect them from the Villain. Even if they couldn't do much except asking Fauna, Flora and Merriweather and also Genie to add some other layers onto Fairy Godmother's barrier.

In the meantime, Maleficent send her daughter into a quest to regain her staff some magic since the hole in the barrier made it sparkle like it didn't for twenty years. So Mal went to this adventure, accompanied by her fellow terror Jay, Jafar's son, and by bringing Evie and Carlos with them. More like Evie, because Mal suspected she's the one who caused the hole with her strange mixture that she called potion (and since Evil Queen's daughter was isolated for nine years, she was opened for whatever invitation, even if the former hold a deep grudge toward her because of not being invited at her birthday party).

And Evie didn't want to go without her friend Carlos and pleaded him to go too because if it went well they could have the two strong kids' protection (and also because she knew he's the one who broke through the barrier)!

    Carlos accepted hesitantly.

Sure, having those two nightmares beside him was better than having them as ennemies, since they didn't care to bully him whenever they meet in some commonplace. And OK, the quest didn't go the way they would but they did end up with an alliance.

With all the adrenaline, he didn't even have the time to wash and was really surprise to find another scratch of scrawling under his note.

    Dats Cham. Red iz greet.

He furrowed his brows and took a long time to decipher what the words (if there were real words) meant. Plus that ugly drawing of a flag with a skull inside.

Half an hour later, he supposed he figured out what the other writing meant. It was replying his comment about his revistement of the TV post. Because of 'Red' (the only word not ruined by those horrible spelling mistakes).

Carlos wonders who had wrote it here. It couldn't be Jay. Jafar's son wasn't that close to him during all the quest, not that Carlos would complained, even if the guy's attractive, he's also rough and a thief. He wouldn't even dare think about Mal or Evie, the girls couldn't misspell a simple word even if they want to. The first had a spell book for evil's sake and his friend got the strict education from her mother.

Not liking about not knowing, Carlos went to dig the mystery by writing back.

It's only after a short nap against his mother's sofa and quickly doing his chores fearing her return that he thought about how foolish he was.

What did he expect? To be answered back, like he's tied with some magic? Laughable.

    But, oh, so real.

Do you mean red is great?

    Ya, lak blud

OK, he got an answer in... Within what, an hour? And this is quite worrying (and those misspelling are still very hurting his eyes) and there is a drawing of a sword and Carlos seriously didn't know what to make of that.

Like he couldn't write much back when the answer is kind of creepy. Because the others people that also do enjoy blood were all Villains (his mother likes to make him suffer to see his blood running out of his flesh, the Evil Queen who's ready to use blood to make potions as make up and give them to Evie...).

But, he has to admit he's also really curious. How is that possible? He couldn't have read it by himself, right?

He does care about how to spell a word and his writing isn't like that. But what if he did it unconsciously? As in, in his sleep. Taking another experiment, he wrote back. Again.

    Is that your favorite color?

Shur, mate. Alung wiz blac n wait.

Even if he got the response back (in, about, 10 minutes or so), he just can't handle anymore. Those misspelling are killing him.

Sure. Along with black and white.

He all but corrects the mistakes, because mate is the only word written correctly.

    U 2?

Now it's just writing in abbreviation.

    I was correcting you.

The answer took times (just ten minutes or so) and Carlos worried that he may upset them.

Not everyon got high standard education.

He resisted the urge to add the 'e' to everyone, mostly because there weren't much places to write on his arm. He wrote on the back of his hand.

    I didn't get high-standard education, I taught myself.

    Gud for ye lad

Don't be mad. I can teach you.

So he started a secret tutoring to a certain someone he didn't even know the name.

The... Weird connection didn't grant them this privilege as every time one of them wanted to write a name of a person or just a place, smudges took place instead of the information. But he may know what it is about.

    Or rather, Evie knows.

And OK, he didn't actually went and told her everything even if he thought about it. He saw her as a dear friend and he wanted to confide to her like how he told her every science projects he had and he wanted to test with her, but this.... Was quite intimate. And well, it's not like Evie is involved (otherwise she would have write back too. Or not, she wouldn't dirty her body because her mother won't let her to).

So, one day, when Dragon Mal (as Jay nicknamed her, but not like Carlos would call her that) summoned him to make some devise she needed (and since he's under her protection, he has to complie), Jay saw under his rag of clothes the scrawlings. And he read all his conversation about his tutoring to the 2 others girls. Before looking at him funny, probably thinking he got mental disorder and was talking to another character in his head.

(Carlos did think about that, and it could be that and he's actually inventing the writings appearing under his eyes, he does feel lonely)

Carlos guessed he should erase them (he discovered that once whenever he or the other person washed their arm, their writing would be erased) but he did want the other to have his lesson in sight.

But Evie and Mal just stare at him like there was some magic under it. Evie's the one who brought up the soulmate thing. She read it in one of her mother's book, something that Evil Queen kept from her former life. Mal then said that Aurora and Philip were soulmates and had (have, they're still alive) a soulmark that attract them to each other (hence the prince saving the princesses' life from Maleficent). Jay asks if Villain's kids have that too. Before shutting his mouth and letting go of Carlos' wrist.

He has the human proof just in front of him.

No one said anything else like why didn't the other three got a soulmark too, whereas Carlos is the youngest.

They agreed to not talk about that anymore and would just ignore if Carlos communicated with his soulmate.

But Carlos found more about it. He was zapping the channels he fixed on the TV post and came onto one reportage about this very subject. Soulmate is a common thing in Auradon and a lot of law are disposed for them. Like they could have more than one soulmate, the soulmate doesn't necessarily mean one true love but more like the person/people you have the more chemistry, the soulmark is unique for everyone and could be regenerated if the soulmate chose to bond or if one of them passed away.

But the boy just have some pain to believe he has a soulmate.

Like someone who is fated to be his match.

Even if he could not meet them, Carlos would take dearly care of this bond.

He never thought it could be someone he knows.

Well, to be honest, after knowing it wasn't one of the three people he hung out, he never thought it could be someone on the Isle. But he should have, because the illiteracy and the bloodthirsty personality could only be found on the Isle of the Lost.

And he discovered it when trying to steal on the wharf.

When the leftovers ships were coming, Carlos never urged himself. It's not worthed it. There would be too much people and he didn't want to end bloody unnecessarily. So, he always waited till the first retreat to steal behind their back. This only worked when it's about food. When he had to get cigars or even furs for her mother, he usually would end at the other side of the dock, the part of wharf where the merchant sell what they took from the rest of Auradon. Until then, he always went unnoticed because of his small form and if not, he got good pair of legs and always managed to escape the rough hands.

    But this day's different.

While pocketing a pack of cigars, he got cornered by this black girl with turquoise hairs.

    And a really shiny sword.

Carlos wasn't even sure how he managed to escape her without being cut but he did know how he ended up in the water.

There's a dead end and either he's cut in sashimi or he leaps from the cliff. Since he knew how to swim, the choice was quickly made.

Nevermind the cigars would be ruined.

For now, his safety's in line. However, he's not so sure once he gets on the shore.

Uma's waiting for him, arms crossed.

At least, her sword wasn't in sight anymore.

He mentally cursed and wondered why of all the times he goes on thieving, Ursula let her daughter out of the shop just today. He considered letting himself drown but fought immediately against it. He remembered the first time in the water and the panic attack that came after, besides, Uma would probably hook him up, with or without the said pirate hook. So he reached the safety of the shore (but not his life) and waited for his sentence. Uma just looked smug before extending her hand wordlessly. Right, he's not worthed her energy to speak. While trying to retrieve his (damp) mischief, the pirate (captain, futhermore) snatched his arm violently before he could even taking out the pack of cigars.

His words were exposed for the second time and Uma knew who the other words belonged to.

Or most likely their identities. In plural.

Because, of course, from all the people he could have as soulmate he got the two of Uma's crew.

Harry and Gil, her first mate and the crew's mascot.

Mal's so going to kill him.

If Cruella didn't kill him first at the sight of ruined cigars that he got to keep after finding out the shocking truth.

He was even offered to eat some fresh food fished by those living at the dock. They had it somehow better, being the closest when Auradon garbage ship came or just having fresh but probably raw meal at hand. But first and foremost, he wondered how he's going to keep it from others.

Like, since the hole in the barrier, he's not the one who got a soulmate, fact he discovered once he actually met Harry and Gil without being held by some cutting metal or in other threatening state. But it seemed that not everyone got a soulmate too. Like, the actual villains (or maybe they do but they're just doing a really good job of hiding it) and Mal, Jay and Evie. Like the former two aren't that impacted because they're tough (or act so) but Evie, not only being his friend, is also a soft heart girl that was raised neatly by the Evil Queen. So, he knows that she not having a soulmate upset her. And it's especially because she's his friend that he doesn't want to hide his soulmates identity to her.

But he did wonder what she'll do by knowing that.

Will she tell Mal, their leader? Or will she keep it silent since Mal's more their protector than anything else?

Carlos didn't want to put the blue hair girl on dilemma, so he just keep his soulmates a secret. Not like he's ashamed of them, but more like he feared of the consequences if they were found out.

Finding excuses to see them instead of their alliance is kind of challenging and most of the time, using the long and incomprehenssible explanation of one of his inventions got him good. But well, then, he had to explain why wasn't he building in his tree house behind Hell Hall like he said (because Jay, the insuffering provocateur, liked to go in the ennemies territories and watch them, Auradon would use stalking but they're not Auradonians) and he had to bring up Cruella's cruelty.

    Got the image?

So, what can he say when Jay and Evie caught him one day with Gil?

You could say he comes across Gaston's last offspring and then chat a little because neither of the two boys were actually hostile to each other and they were just following their leader but, then again, how could he clarify their interwined hands?

Evie was the first to react, her face fell and her eyes hold the truth that Carlos didn't tell.

He couldn't bear to look at her anymore so the younger boy looked at Jay and met with a hard look making his heart sank. Jay was looking at him like he was looking at Jafar on their bad days and... And Carlos just felt like he was their victim of his and Mal's bullying all over again.

And, Evil, what's gonna happen now they know this part of his secret?

Gil must had sense the atmosphere changing but not enough to retreat and even proposed to walk Carlos home. Jay stared suspiciously at him but Evie spoke up and said they will do it.

    As being Carlos' allies.

The pirate didn't take the hint and just smiled broadly at the princess, taking her off guard. He left the little boy to them but not before assuring Carlos that he will inform this to one Harry Hook. The look in the younger eyes would have stop anyone but not Gil and it's only after mount insurance that the blond accepts to drop it and finally go. Leaving Carlos to deal his own problem.

However, he didn't have the chance to even apologize that the last person came and crush his hopes to keep this quiet.

Mal was pissed, she said it several time that she doesn't like other people to touch her property and the pirate was just messing with her protected VK and that meant war.

Carlos wanted to say that it was nothing like that. Gil wasn't messing with him, their relationship was deeper than just some lame rough house so usual on the Isle, that Gil and Harry are his soulmates and they wouldn't hurt him. But no words came out of his mouth when the three others look at him and he could only follow numbly behind them while they stepped to the docks. Carlos barely caught Evie's worry gaze on him before he grabbed a pen to warn his soulmates and their crew.

Confrontation was never his favorite thing.

He could even say it's the worst. When Cruella confronted him, it's usually end with hits and slaps or others bad thing on his petite person, but when a confrontation is about him choosing between two sides, knowing that one would be as hurt as the other if he did chose, he could say that is much worse.

Carlos didn't want to pick between his first partners and his first loves, yet Mal and Uma want him to take party, because, it actually concerned him.

But what he wanted is them being able to associate because why being torn in two squad while they used to get along well? And why put him in such difficult place by taking side of one unit and turning his back on the other?

Guess that'd be the only thing they could agree on till he choose.

He didn't want to and wouldn't have to if Mal wasn't being the proud and tough girl she put face on. That's the thing that stopped Carlos to be totally who he is, but that's also the part he admired the most.

Eventually, it's the part that put him out of her team.

Mal left without turning back, followed by Jay who turned a last cold gaze to him and with a teary eyes Evie. They left a broken heart Carlos, a bitter taste in his mouth and a sour heart about a past relationship that could be so much better.

Then, Gil went and hugged Carlos, glad to doing so so openly and with a really glad Harry who promised him a wonderful future by their side. And Carlos turned and saw Uma's smug smirk, and nodded to acknowledge her as his new leader.
